Common questions
Where does this information come from?
From the open data portals of New York OCFS, Pennsylvania DHS, Massachusetts EEC and Washington DCYF. Each profile links to the state's official lookup.
Does this show inspections or complaints?
No. These state files list licensed programs but not inspection results. Use the state lookup on each profile for inspection and complaint history. See how to check a license in each state.
What does Keystone STARS mean?
It is Pennsylvania's quality improvement system for child care, with levels from STAR 1 to STAR 4. We show the level as the state publishes it. See what Keystone STARS means.
Why don't home-based programs show an address or phone?
They are run from private homes, so we leave out the street address and phone. Use the state's lookup to confirm the license.
What is the difference between licensed and registered?
States use different terms and rules. See licensed, registered and exempt child care.
My program is missing or wrong. What do I do?
We list currently licensed programs in these four states. Use the corrections page; changes to the license record itself must go through the state.
